Programme des études Médicales

Initial program in medicine:

Access to the first year of medical studies in order to prepare for the degree of Doctor of Medicine takes place by means of a competitive examination. The conditions and procedures for the organisation of the competition are set by ministerial decree. It is open to candidates who hold a baccalaureate obtained in one of the series provided for in the list below or a diploma recognized as equivalent :

• Experimental Sciences
• Original Experimental Sciences
• Mathematical Sciences A
• Mathematical Sciences B
• Agricultural Sciences.

Registrations are annual. Each medical student is required to renew their registration at the beginning of each academic year by September 30, failing which they will be removed from the faculty’s student list.

  • The courses provided by the institution include theoretical training and practical training (1st cycle, 2nd cycle).
  • Courses and internships start in the 1st week of September. An academic calendar established  at the beginning of the year informs  students : the beginning and end of classes, the dates of exams and results for the 1st semester, the 2nd semester and the 2nd session, the schedule of hospital internships, the sessions of clinical and therapeutic summary exams, and university holidays.

The first cycle of medical studies consists of the 1st and 2nd year. Teaching is organized in

  • Disciplinary modules including the teaching of some or all of the fundamental pre-clinical and clinical disciplines.
  • Power skills modules include hybrid (face-to-face and/or remote) teaching of transversal skills
  • Foreign Language Modules includes hybrid (face-to-face and/or distance learning) teaching of languages : French and English

Theoretical training is provided in the form of lectures, tutorials and practical work. It is intended to provide training in basic basic sciences and pre-clinical and clinical sciences.

The second cycle of medical studies consists of four years, the last two of which are devoted to full-time clerkships.
Theoretical teaching during the 3rd and 4th grades is provided in the form of lectures and directed courses and organized in :

  • Disciplinary modules including the teaching of pre-clinical and clinical fundamental disciplines.
  • Power skills modules include hybrid (face-to-face and/or remote) teaching of transversal skills.
  • Foreign Language Modules includes hybrid (face-to-face and/or distance learning) teaching of languages : French and English
A. Objectives and Organization of the Internships :

Hospital internships are compulsory. They are introduced at the end of the 1st year of medical studies. They are intended to provide practical training for medical students in university hospitals and approved health establishments.

B. Nature of hospital internships :

The practical training includes 3 varieties of internships :

  • The immersion internship in the health system, immersion in nursing.
  • The part-time externship internship,
  • Full-time externship
a. Immersion internships in the health system, immersion in nursing:

The immersion internship in the health system takes place in the mornings, during the months of July or August after passing the exams at the end of the first year. This internship takes place in university hospital departments, dispensaries and approved health centers or in area hospitals.

The nursing immersion internship takes place in the mornings, during the months of July or
August, after passing the exams at the end of the second year. This internship takes place in
approved health centers or in area hospitals.
The objectives of this internship, as well as the course of the sessions, are contained in the
booklet made available to students at the beginning of each academic year

b. Part-time externship internships :

Part-time interships take place from the 5th to the 8th semester of medical studies. They last
4 to 9 weeks each for a total duration of 18 weeks for each semester.
These internships take place in the various departments of the Mohammed VI University
Hospital in Marrakech, the Avicenne Military Hospital in Marrakech or in approved services.
The organisation of these courses is done under the responsibility of the « Hospital Internships »


committee 3rd year and 4th year internships :

• Basic Clinical Internship in Medicine and Surgery
• Basic clinical internship in gynaecology and obstetrics
• Basic Clinical Internship in Pediatrics
• Basic Public Health Internship
• Basic clinical internship in medical specialties
• Additional internship in medicine and/or surgery and/or medical laboratories and/or
scientific laboratories and/or in the social sector.

c. The full-time externship interships :

Full-time externship internships last two years and take place from the 9th to the 12th semester in the departments of the Mohammed VI University Hospital, the Avicenna Military Hospital of Marrakech or in the non-university departments directed by the faculty’s teachers, in the morning and afternoon and last 22 weeks for each semester in the 5th year and 45 weeks (5 internships of 9 weeks) for the 6th year.
The practical training during the 5th and 6th years of medical studies is complemented by theteaching of:

  • Modules in medical-surgical skills and modules in Mother-Child skills in 9th and 10th grade.
  •  Family Medicine modules in 11th to 12th grade.
